date morning

This year, I wanted to start a new tradition where I take each of my boys out to breakfast before school starts and then take them shopping for some new school clothes and back to school basics! Today was Ashtyn's mommy-n-me breakfast date and Ashtyn wanted to go to I-Hop! It was alot of fun to eat breakfast with my oldest baby boy and actually have a full length conversation with him. We talked about bakugan, pokemon, what he wants to be for Halloween and what he wants Santa to bring him at Christmas. (Those lists start SO early...) Then he told me that he's most excited for recess at school and when I asked him what he's most nervous about starting first grade he thought about it and then told me he knows he's nervous about something but he can't remember what it is. Ha!! I guess that's a good thing! Ash then told me he can't wait to learn more about reading and writing and said that he's glad he's been practicing his math problems because that's his favorite subject! He's my little book worm! After breakfast we went shopping for jeans, socks and underwear. I kind of had a sudden realization of how grown up Ashtyn really is now, as we were standing in Target and I held up the pack of Lego Batman underwear and asked "Are you sure these are the ones you want?" and he said "Mom, don't say it so loud!" Oh my...I suddenly and seriously felt like a MOM!!!! I had a great time with Ash!! He's growing up way too fast and while there's still moments that I see baby-Ashtyn shining through he really is turning into a young man.
