must be good genes!!

A couple of weeks ago, we got a note from Maddox's teacher that he would be winning an award at his school's Friday assembly!! Every month, Centennial Elementary honors one student from each class with a character award. There is a character trait for each month and each teacher chooses a student to be awarded a certificate who has displayed that character trait in their classroom. This month, the character trait deserving of recognition was "self discipline". Now, I have to admit, when Brandon and I saw that Maddox was winning an award for self discipline we were pretty shocked!! (And we may have laughed a little...) Maddox definitely struggles with self control, is quite stubborn and strong willed and usually doesn't think before he acts. We assume that Maddox's teacher gave him this award specifically because of how much Maddox has improved in this area since the beginning of the school year. We have spoken with Maddox's teacher on several occasions about his visiting during work time and not always finishing his projects but he has definitely been doing MUCH better!! We are so proud of him!! Maddox had no idea he would be winning an award!! Brandon and I snuck into the back of the gym to surprise Maddox!! When they first called Maddox's name I think he was a bit embarrassed...but then as he walked across the front of the gym and onto the stage he had that look on his face that says "I know you're all looking at me and I'm trying not to smile but secretly I'm really enjoying the attention...!!!"

I think when Brandon walked up close to the stage to take a picture of Maddox he was very surprised that we were there!! In a good way, of course!! He kept waving at us throughout the rest of the assembly!!

Maddox was awarded a certificate and given a "Terrific Kids" bumper sticker as a part of his award!! He was super proud!!

Now, we are rockin' TWO "Terrific Kids" stickers on the back of our mini van!! That's right...we're THOSE parents and, I must say, we're pretty proud of it!!
