Before my parents decided to visit us in Oklahoma for Christmas, they had already packed up and mailed their gifts for the boys to our house. When the box arrived I was in shock!! It was a HUGE box!! Thankfully, the boys were already in bed, asleep, when the box arrived and so they couldn't try to break into it and get themselves all worked up. As soon as the box arrived, I opened it and put all the new gifts under the Christmas tree. When the boys woke up the next morning they were super excited to see all the presents under the tree but they were also very excited to see the giant box I had saved!! What is it about an empty cardboard box that can keep two little boys busy for HOURS!?!? They immediately started playing with the box and it honestly kept them busy for a couple of weeks!!
First, they played inside the box, using crayons to color different scenes on the inside. They would put pillows inside with them and even used two empty wrapping paper tubes as swords to pretend play along with their box. We kept the empty box in their room until last week, when we had such nice weather, and then the boys took the box outside. Eventually, they asked me to cut a hole in the side of the box and they would crawl in and out through it and then before I knew it they were smashing the box with swords and putting it at the end of the slide and sliding down on top of it, squashing it underneath them. Needless to say, the box didn't make it back inside after that day! Ha! Now, their beloved box looks like a flat piece of chopped up cardboard in the backyard. Oh well, they had fun with it for longer then I ever would have thought!
