Let Freedom Ring

We had a fun 4th of July this year!! We've never really had a "tradition" for the 4th of July besides eating good food, shooting off fireworks and spending time with family. The family that has been able to celebrate with us from year to year has changed but we've always had tons of fun and alot of laughs. This year Grampa Mike, Gramma Pennie and Great Gramma Anna came over and boy did we have a blast!!

We shot off EVEN MORE fireworks...

and ate super yummy food!! We had appetizers of homemade salsa with chips and I made this yummy fruit platter with homemade lemon dip. It was delicious!! Then later in the evening, Brandon grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with sides of baked beans and corn on the cob!! Yum!! We finished it off with strawberry shortcake and pecan and caramel pie. Let's just say...we ate good!!

We made one more trip to the fireworks stand and bought a few more things but once we were done shooting off our own fireworks we sat in the front yard and watched the show put on courtesy of ALL of our neighbors. There is NOWHERE else in the world, I don't think, left where you can experience what goes on on the 4th of July here in Mustang, Oklahoma!! I mean seriously...until we moved here I had never seen anything like it and now I don't think it would be the 4th without it!! In Mustang, you are allowed to shoot off fireworks inside the city limits and the people of Mustang take it to the extreme. Literally up and down every single street in town people are in front of their homes shooting off everything from sparklers to large city-display-grade fireworks that make loud explosions and beautiful colors in the sky. It's amazing!! By the end of the night the whole city is covered in a hovering fog of smoke and you can't get rid of the smoke smell for what seems like days. It's a bit chaotic but it's wonderful and makes for tons of memories!! Plus, you don't have to spend much money on fireworks because without a doubt someone in your neighborhood will and you can just sit back and enjoy their money going up in smoke!! Ha!!

Happy 4th of July eveyone!! Hope you were all able to make tons of memories with friends and family...and eat tons of good food too, of course!!
