"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

history repeats itself
I love baking from scratch. I don't get to do it nearly enough but if there is one thing that makes me happy and calms me down it's definitely baking. I love trying out new recipes from magazines or the food network but almost nothing beats baking something that's been passed down from one generation to the next. There's just something about serving your family a recipe that you remember eating as a kid and that your mom or dad also remember eating as a kid. It's comforting and nostalgic and just makes you feel like a good mom. I hope my kids have the same memories of comfort food when they grow up as I do now. And I hope to pass on these recipes just as my mom, her mom and her mom before that. History is beautiful. Even in food!
