"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

biscuits and gravy with a side of patience
My gramma is a wonderful woman. Growing up, we always lived close enough to her and my Grampa that we grew up around them, always visiting at holidays and spending as much time with them as life allowed. Sadly, my Grampa passed away when I was only a teenager so my kids never got to meet him but I'm beyond blessed that my kids have had the privilege of knowing their Great Gramma Anna! The life lessons my gramma taught me as a young girl she is now passing onto my children. Beautiful! Mine and my sister's families visited gramma at her home in Enid for New Year's Eve this year. We spent the evening playing cards and dominos and ringing in the new year in our PJ's, laughing and making memories. On New Year's Morning my gramma made the traditional "visiting gramma's house" breakfast of homemade biscuits, gravy and bacon. Yum! This visit, though, she let the great grand kids help her bake the biscuits. They may not have been perfectly shaped and I'm sure we wasted way too much dough but they sure tasted good! Like I said, my gramma is a wonderful woman and on New Year's Day 2013 she gained even more respect in my eyes...if that was even possible. As I watched her teach the kids how to cut out biscuits I couldn't help but take notes on her patience and kindness. She truly knows how to live in the moment and not strive for perfection but instead strive to make memories. I can only hope to be half the woman my gramma is as I grow old and I'm so very thankful that she is a part of my life and the lives of my kids. We can't get enough of her! (Or her biscuits and gravy...!!!)
