"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

IN YO FACE!!!!
Usually, each Christmas, my sisters and I go in together on a gift for our mom and dad. It's less pressure AND, when we pool our money, we can get them something bigger and better! This year we all noticed, on several separate occasions, that our dad told a story about when he was a kid in elementary school. He seemed to still hang onto a grievance from "back in the day" and couldn't help but tell the story over and over and over again. Apparently, when our dad was a little boy he left school for Christmas break hoping that he would receive an ever coveted Lite-Bright from Santa. Much to my dad's dismay he did not get his Lite-Bright. It was salt in his Christmas wound when he went back to school in January and a little girl in his class (apparently named Laura V...yes, he still remembers her name...) HAD gotten a Lite-Bright and rubbed it in everyone's faces! She must have bragged a lot because 45+ years later my dad is STILL telling this horrific story! This year, for Christmas, my sisters and I couldn't help ourselves but to find a Lite-Bright (AN ORIGINAL ONE!!!!) and give it to our dad for Christmas. And guess what!?!? WE FOUND ONE!!!! Actually, I have to give credit where credit is due. My youngest sister, Karianne, found the vintage Lite-Bright on Ebay and won the bid! We couldn't wait to give it to dad! When he opened it on Christmas morning I think he was a bit shocked! He obviously wasn't prepared to see a Lite-Bright but ultimately he was excited. In fact, as soon as all of the families gifts were opened dad went straight to the dining room table and got right to work on his first Lite-Bright picture. When he was finally ready to show off his masterpiece we were CRACKING UP because dad didn't make a dinosaur or a hot air balloon...no, instead he wrote the words "In Your Face Laura V." Ha!!!! I'm guessing he's still working to get over his resentment from that infamous grade school Christmas. Hopefully having his very own Lite-Bright will finally allow him to move on!
