"Nature looks dead in winter because her life is gathered into her heart. She withers the plant down to the root that she may grow it up again fairer and stronger. She calls her family together within her inmost home to prepare them for being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth." Hugh Macmillan

paint your art out
I was so SO excited when a couple of months ago I got invited to a friend's birthday party and they were going to Paint Your Art Out in Edmond. This is one of those places where they teach you step by step how to paint and in the end everyone goes home with an amazing painting! I'm not gonna lie, I had serious doubts about whether these so called "painting teachers" could really get ME to paint something even worth taking home (I'm not artistic WHAT...SO...EV...ER!!) but I was willing to give it a try! Even if my "cross" ending up looking like a stick person eating another stick person I was going to have fun!
We all brought snacks and showed up to Paint Your Art Out ready to get started. We were all painting the cross you see above with a stained glass detail in the background. Some people did a diamond pattern in the background behind their cross. It was really amazing how we were all taught the same lesson, with the same art teacher, painting the same picture and yet everyone's pictures came out so very different. The same painting but a different variation. My experience was a bit more exciting than everyone else's when I was choosing my paint colors and the man behind the counter squirting my paint onto my plate accidentally squirted paint all over my shirt and the girl standing next to me! And it was BLACK paint too! The staff quickly rushed us into the back room and tried using water and stain removing pens to get as much of the paint out as they possibly could but, in the end, both of our shirts were ruined. They felt terrible and gave us our paintings for free (I'll take that!) but it really wasn't that big of a deal! It was greatly overshadowed by how much fun I was having!
In the end I couldn't have been more impressed with the outcome of my painting! I mean, if these people can make ME paint THAT they can make anyone paint! Seriously! No joke! They are very good at what they do and I was happy enough with my painting that it is now actually hanging in our home office/guest room! And even more than that I'm actually looking for an opportunity to go back and do it again!
Thanks Salena for having a birthday and thanks for inviting me! It was a blast!
